Congratulations to Jules Grucker, he just passed his Thèse d’État, which is the highest degree available in France.
Today was researcher’s night at FORTH. Just like in pervious years there were hundreds of visitors. Exhibits included the award winning LEGO based optical tomography (video), a wonderful model of an eye with corrective lenses, and non-newtonian liquids.
Daniel came to work with us for a week to discuss new projects on quantum enhanced imaging. He is now running a cold-atom research group at UNAM in Mexico. Before that Daniel was a postdoc in our group from 2006 to 2010.
Debapriya Pal (on an internship 05/2018-07/2018 working on laser optics) was awarded the prestigious 2018 Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship by the international society for optics and photonics SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, for his potential contributions to the field of optics, photonics or related field.
Deba joined us from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata, India. He is working on a novel optical assembly for fibre-coupled slave lasers. He is the Student Chapter Secretary of SPIE at IISER Kolkata.
Barry Garraway visited us 19-24 March for a week to sort out some finer points on rf-microwave transitions in dressed potentials.
The school will be held in Archanes close to Heraklion and the conference close to Chania. We have already assembled a very nice list of speakers… more news soon to come.

Premjith joins us from the Cochin University of Science and Technology South Kalamassery in Kerala, India to do the research for his master thesis.
